President's Report

Market Yourself!
Ginia Lucas, President, Phoenix Chapter of NACE
The Food and Wine Pairing was not only an amazing event but a great night of networking. I took a few minutes after the meeting to talk to Angie Van Daele from the Wedding Chronicle. We were discussing marketing during a recession and she made a very astute point that really sunk in.
You need to look like you’re doing well, and people will assume that you are doing well
If you are doing well, you must be good at what you do, and if you are good at what you do, people want to do business with you. Simple advice! I looked back and thought that there was truth to that statement. Years ago when we were starting our business, I had bought a rather expensive pair of boots that I really couldn’t afford, but just had to have. Strangely enough, every time I wore them, I made more sales. I thought of them as my lucky boots, but after listening to Angie, I realized it was the confidence that they brought me, and the air of ‘doing well’ that actually helped make the sale.
Another good piece of advice is to stay and look busy. If someone asked how you are doing, Say "I'm really busy! but I can always take on another event!" Again, this instills confidence in potential clients.
So do everything you can to look and act the part. Make sure you look your best, feel your best and have that bit of confidence you need to show your clients that you can do well for them too.  Remember, marketing yourself is the first step to marketing your business.

Meeting Notes

GREAT TURNOUT FOR THE NACE ANNUAL FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

November's Food and Wine Pairing had a spectacular turnout. We had over 90 in attendance as ManWai Lai from Southern Wine and Spirits paired up some great wines with the delectable creations from Chef Patrick Karvis from The Scottsdale Hilton.

The menu was amazing, and the basic design of the event was patterned after the food and wine pairing that President, Ginia Lucas and Program Chair, Jessica Sprouse attended at the NACE National Experience! Conference in Philadelphia last August. By bringing Conference home, we are hoping that more of our members will want to attend this amazing event next year in Charlotte and learn more about NACE too.

Candy Thornton from Easel Photography also gave the guests a surprise by providing free head shots at the meeting so that they could be used for their various jobs, websites etc.

Shawna Reid of Your Event Florist did beautiful dendrobium and fresh grape arrangements to coordinate with the red velvet crushed bichon linens and gold filigree chargers provided by by Y-Knot Party & Rentals. The design was in Gold Tuscan urns to coordinate with the Wine theme.

Next year don't miss this fantastic event! It is one of the highlights of our NACE year!

Community Service

Home Base Youth Services Score Big!
NACE Members generosity was at a high point this November. Over 100 items were donated to the Youth at Home Base Youth Services at the Food and Wine Pairing. We received full sized shampoos, conditioners, lotions, deodorants and toilet paper as well as other necessary toiletries that help the youth get back on their feet and lead productive lives.
Home Base is a nonprofit organization committed to helping homeless youth get off the streets so they can lead a happy and productive live. They provide transitional housing, outreach and independant living as well as helpiong them get their diploma or GED, finding jobs, and teaching them the life skills they need to transition form street life to independence.
Every month, we will be collecting these items to further support this great cause. So don't forget to bring some of these items to any of our NACE meetings in the next year. They are looking for full sized toiletries, extra large hoodies, men's and women's underwear, socks, blankets, sleeping bags, baby formula, diapers and sunscreen.
Remember! you will receive a free raffle ticket for each item you bring.
